My journey into UX was unconventional. In my prior life as a blacksmith with a degree in sculpture, I wouldn’t have imagined myself working in the tech field, but UX design ended up being a perfect fit for my dual passions of craft and human connection.
After finding that my sculpture degree didn’t pay my bills, I took my passion for connecting with others to South Korea to teach English and then to New York to work in art sales. In 2002, I ended up leading the art and collectibles division at a small online auction house in New York, selling several Picassos for the President of Artnet Worldwide.
When Artnet launched the first online auction house for fine art, they brought me on board, seeing potential in me despite my lack of experience. While learning tech skills on my own was definitely a trial by fire, I loved crafting user experiences.
From that moment, my path was clear. I've worked for startups, as well as in consulting, and I haven't looked back.
Born in Winston-Salem, NC, I've lived in NYC, South Korea, and central Illinois before settling in Durham, NC. I love exploring new places and cultures, often seeking out quirky roadside attractions over typical tourist spots.
I have two wonderful kids, one in college and the other in middle school. My tiny dog rules the household. Yoga is a regular part of my life, helping me stay balanced.
