ECI 517 - Experiential Learning Lesson for AR/VR

After reviewing several resources on experiential learning and the use of AR/VR to enhance learning outcomes, we were prompted to develop a lesson plan or course outline for experiential learning through AR/VR or MX.

Requirements:

  1. Identify a learning objective that I would desire to address utilizing AR/VR technology.

  2. Research VR technology, and identify a AR/VR environment through which you can create VR content to teach the objective. Provide details about the AR/VR environment and include a link to the website.

  3. Describe how the AR/VR experience will align with experiential learning principles and benefit the learner.

Supporting Mastery of Adaptive Learning Technology

This lesson plan demonstrates how I am using assistive technologies (Night Sky app and VoiceOver) to create an inclusive learning experience for blind/low vision students. It highlights my ability to adapt a traditionally visual subject like astronomy to meet the needs of these learners by utilizing technology that transforms visual content into auditory feedback. This reflects on my mastery of integrating adaptive tech to make complex concepts accessible.

I really enjoyed reading your lesson plan on teaching astronomy to blind and low vision students using the Night Sky app with Voiceover. You did a great job integrating Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory. You created an engaging and accessible multi-sensory experience for students which can be difficult to do. The use of tactile constellation models and auditory feedback provides a meaningful way for students to explore the night sky, especially for students who are blind or have low vision. The reflection phase allows them to process challenges and deepen their understanding. I also appreciated the homework extension to promote autonomy and experimentation.
